Modern society is faced with many difficult and pressing problems in every field. To solve the problems across a broad range of society, such as civilian life, social activities, business activities, and administrative activities, the roles of the functions of social information are critical, and the formulation and development of social informatics as a new integrated science are strongly required academically and practically.
Academic cooperation from scholars in so many fields and academic development based on a new methodology are needed for the formulation of social informatics as such a new integrated science because of the diversity of target fields and sciences, which must be applied to it. In addition, considering the nature of the problems, it is a unique discipline that needs highly advanced logic, practical specificity, and social practical workability.
The Japan Association for Social Informatics is vigorously active in many fields thanks to the participation and cooperation from not only scholars in a broad range of fields but also specialists and practitioners in the public fields of administration, industrial economy, city management, citizen welfare, and civilian life, in order to meet the academic, social, and practical needs for social informatics.
